This was my first experience of the encyclopedic format; my main task was to compile the lists of individual winegrowers under their regional classifications of each country, pasting galleys of raw formatted text onto the page layouts to determine any requirement for further editing. It was slow and repetitive in a mostly pre-electronic workflow, however the waxing of galleys was peculiarly therapeutic - a method long gone nowadays. There were some perks: at the end of each week we would select a sample of wines from the current section for 'personal appraisal sessions'.
